Notes is a new offering from Calligram Pictures that provides relevant, actionable feedback on short films. We want to help your chances on the festival circuit.

If you’ve ever been rejected by a film festival and wished they would tell you why, you’re in the right place.

Introducing Notes

We think there’s a gap between making short films and working as a professional filmmaker. You want to keep developing, but there’s no one giving you feedback. It’s an in-between phase, and it can be hard to break through.

To help, we’re offering tailored feedback on short films. You’ll get a written page of Notes, around 300 words, with our ideas on how to tighten, polish and generally enhance your film.

Our Notes focus on the technical aspects of filmmaking – the kinds of things festival judges tend to critcise. Areas we may give you feedback on include, but are not limited to:

  • Cinematography, editing, sound design, sound mixing, production design, costume design, practical effects, visual effects, continuity, and copyright.

Now Open

We want to give each submission due time and attention, so Notes will remain open while we’re able to complete the critiques.

Short films, featured socially

If we're particularly into your film, we’d love to promote it on our site, podcast, and social channels. This is mostly us just wanting to champion great work when we see it, but also our way of saying thanks for submitting.

We won’t feature every film we see, so if we get in touch about yours, you can be sure we’re pretty impressed. Keep an eye on your emails once you send it in — that’s how you can expect to hear from us if we’re keen to give your film a spot on our feed.
